Indie Game Name

To grab your target audience's attention right away, you need a unique hook that helps your game differentiate itself from other games.

To help you, here is a template: What actions does the player get to do? What's your game's genre? What's your game's setting?

Here's my example:

Lead generations of Kings and Queens in this Turn-based 4x Strategy Deckbuilder. Set in 1407 Bohemia, it's your duty to explore, find, and pillage resources to build a massive army to project your empire. If you don't take over land, then your neighbors will.

Number 1 Reason Why I Should Play Your Game

Your description above grabs attention. Now you gotta hold that attention. And the best way to hold a players, investors, or publishers attention is to show and tell them what ADVANTAGE they'll get from playing (or investing) in your game.

To help you, first start with your BEST feature. But don't just explain what that feature is. Explain what the player will GET when they experience that feature. Then use an animated gif/mov to show off that feature in action.

I'll explain more, below...

Number 2 Reason Why I Should Play Your Game

Now, move onto your second best feature. And again, don't just explain the feature... show and tell what the feature will DO for the player.

For example, here's a typical way an indie game dev would describe a feature:

"Explore dungeons and search for resources and materials. And uncover powerful hidden artifacts."

... but this description doesn't hold attention because it's boring. You need to get more specific and show and tell them what the player will experience.

For example, here's a description where you put the focus on the player and "what's in it for me"...

"Explore tunnels beneath your hub in search of precious materials and uncover powerful hidden artifacts. But you need to watch the time and get back to your hub before the next wave attacks. Do you keep exploring? Or do you play it safe and head back?"

Number 3 Reason Why I Should Play Your Game

Now what's your third best feature? Again, explain what advantage ("what's in it for me") the player will get by using this feature... and then use a gif/mov showing that feature in action.

Personalize Your Studio

Your potential customer (or investor, publisher) wants to feel good about you and your game. Is your game fun? Is your game worth the value? Do I trust your game isn't broken?

The more comfortable someone feels about buying from you, the more likely they will do so.

That's why I recommend that you make your website more personable.

So use the section to talk about games that inspired you to make this game. Talk about how you scrambled a small team to make this game. Talk about how long it took. Talk about what games influenced you when you were growing up. Talk about the struggles you've overcome to make this game.

Most indie devs don't do this because I think they fear it makes them sound amateurish. On the contrary, it makes your studio feel personal.

My point is, being personal helps sell. That's because when you personalize your studio, you prevent turning your game into a commodity.

Ask For Action

Now that you've got my attention, held my attention by showing and telling me 3 advantages I'll get for playing your game, and you told me something about you, then now make it very easy for me to take the next step.

And often a lot of indie game devs make the mistake by giving the person too many options (i.e. link to discord and twitter and youtube and wishlist, etc). Pick one action you want the player to take, and make it easy for them to do so.

In my example, I have a wishlist button... but you can have a Discord link, email subscription, ect. But what's important is, don't have too many options... one is best. And it's ok to have links in other places, but make sure to have the main action be very prominent.

For example...

Click the link above and wishlist and get notified when it releases!
